My Beko condensing tumble dryer DCU8230 short-circuited in use. It's difficult to access so I have just isolated it for the moment, and don''t even know whether it's earth to live or to neutral that's the problem. The heater unit is readily available and not unduly expensive. Any experience of changing it, or could the problem lie elsewhere, please? It has lasted ten years without a fault.

What is tripping in the consumer unit, an MCB or RCD. It could well be the element has failed but it may well just be a build up of fluff. There is no point in buying parts until you know which one is faulty. The exploded views here should help you gain access for testing or removing parts
If you suspect it is the heater then disconnect it and see if it still trips something when switched on.

Thanks for all the advice, all of it really appreciated. I will be able to discover more when the machine is out of its tight space, and help is on its way! The problem definitely isn't due to any build-up of fluff which is very frequently removed.

Those exploded diagrams are particularly helpful, and I have saved that helpful link for future reference. I'll report back when the fault is found, to conclude the issue in case others have a similar problem.

Our (past tense- she kicked me out) Hoover condensing washer dryer failed after about 14 months. The drum wouldn't spin unless helped. I twigged it was the capacitor and decided to replace it. I was shocked to see how much dust bypasses the main filter and settles in the area under the drum... where the condenser/motor is. I vacuumed it out.

I don't give a chite about how safe it is any more /endOfSourGrapes

@jj4091 was asking you if the MCB or RCD is tripping. If it is RCD and not MCB, it may suggest a earth to live fault.

Rcd trip could be either live or netral to earth

As promised, the problem with the Beko condensing tumble dryer DCU 8230 is now repaired, and here's what it was... the mains connection block (which I think may also have some sort of suppression function)! After all those years of use, it had become very brittle and fragile, and there was a split and short circuit between two terminals. Thankfully an easy and inexpensive replacement.
Thanks again for all your help.
