I'm building some raised beds from old scaffolding planks, but need to sand the worst of the cr*p off first and make them semi-presentable before staining etc. I've got 30 planks to do, all in pretty shoddy nick.

I'm going to buy a belt sander at the weekend and have a budget of about £100 - any recommendations or makes to avoid? Is Bosch worth the dosh etc?

Bloke in B&Q was trying to persuade me that their own MacAllister brand was fine, but I know that "you buy cheap, you buy twice".

Any help much appreciated.

If your confident there are no nails in them, chip off any nasty render, mortar etc and buy a planer and some blades, Sanding them even with 60 grit will take a very long time, planing will be much quicker
