During this cold spell, is it best or more economical to run the ch system;

A) Leave the stat on a lowish setting, eg. 16 deg all day

or

B) Just switch the ch on when I get home

When I get home, recently the house temp has been 12 or 13 deg. If I turn the heating/stat on to 18 deg, then the boiler might be going full pelt for up to 3 hours before the temp is reached. Is this wasteful and hard on the boiler? Would I be better maintaining a lower background temp all the time?

I think it will be cheaper to turn it on when you get home rather than letting it continously cycle.

Why not measure your gas usage for both methods say for 2 days and post back your findings.
