I'm finishing off an oak framed porch which is sat on dwarf brick walls with a blockwork internal wall to form the cavity. I have a 20mm thick 200mm deep length of oak to sit on top of the block wall and bridge across the cavity to the oak frame. Apart from screwing and plugging into the top of the blockwork does anyone have any other suggestions?
I'm also having two 50mm thick bits of oak joined to form a bench around 1.8m by 0.5m. This will be sat on the block wall supported along the length and one end. I want to support it on the other end against the house wall which we are about to board and plaster. Any ideas on what I could fix to this wall to support the third side of this big bit of oak? The plasterer would need to be able to plaster up to it or around it.
I'm now thinking a picture may be a lot easier!
