Removing my existing fire and want to block it up.I've heard that you need to put a vent for airflow where the fire was.I was wondering instead of putting a vent on the inside of the house could i not put an airbrick on the outside of the chimney.Help appreciated.

Ventilation wise it’s OK but drawing cold air into it from the outside will make the chimney breast cold to the touch on the inside with a possibility of condensation forming on the wall. You should also consider a vent cap on the top to keep the rain out.
Will i still have to provide ventilation if i cap the chimney off?
A vent cap doesn't close the chimney completely off; it covers the pot to keep the rain out but still allows natural upward ventillation which you need to maintain to avoid damp.
