Blown dimmer switch twice

Please help.

I got a new bedroom light it has a transformer which seemed to emit a low buzzing sound but I put up with it for a few weeks. Then I went to turn on the light the other day and a spark and bang came from the dimmer switch and tripped all the lights. So I replaced the switch with a new dimmer and turned it on and exactlty the same thing happend again.

Any idea why please ?

dimmer switch / transformer not compatable.

not all transformers are dimable

ok thanks, but would it not have blown straight away rather than working for a few weeks then blowing?

No.

And possibly the 2nd dimmer went immediately because of component tolerance differences, or because the transformer is now b*gg*r*d.
