Boarding or conversion

Hi,

My recent post in here has been moved to roofing and guttering, so still hoping for some help on that. Not sure why it was moved as mainly asking about the damage to the party walls.

Anyway, next question. Having decked out the loft, what more can I do before I need building regs?

If the loft is only meant for storage, but I want to put up a plaster board wall, will I need building regs?

Your questions are a bit vague tbh but a room in the roof lawfully only becomes habitable and subject to Building Regulations once a permanent compliant staircase or other means of access is installed. Until then it will be and can only ever be glorified storage and the property can never be sold as having anything but storage in the loft. An ad hoc conversion can actually devalue a property rather than increase it BTW.

plus you have to make sure the structural timbers are suitable for holding up the weight of people as most lofts are designed only for holding up the roof. Not for storage of anything greater than a heater.

Thanks. Had it boarded out. Only want it for storage but wanted to put up some simple wall plaster board to hide the rest of the loft, insulation etc
