Boarding the loft

I've been on a mission emptying the loft of the previous owners/tenants stuff. Obviously didn't notice it until after the sale went through.

I want to build some supports i just don't know what size timber to use


I've attached a screenshot of what I mean

I would follow the line of existing joists and make sure the sit on the wall plates. Then stand C16 studs on end to the required height
 
Some pics of your own loft would show us what you are dealing with.

Also, please measure the joist depth, width, and length between supporting walls.
