Hi,
I own an Ideal Vulcan traditional boiler.

The boiler works fine when switched onto water only, takes around 1/2 an hour to gain a full tank of hot water. When the boiler is turned onto radiators & hot water, it's taking an absolute age to gain any hot water- around 3 hours.

Over the last six months I've changed the pump (running in correct flow direction) & added an few extra radiators upstairs.

I also put in some Fern boiler quietener recently, which worked very well.

Any ideas and sensible suggestions would be greatly appreciated?

Thanks.

Any ideas?
Put hot water on 3 hours before you need it. End of problem.

If your not satisfied with that, you need to describe the control set up you have - motorised valves, cylinder 'stat, etc.

Although those boilers look pretty massive they are usually only about 30,000 BTU and it could be that all your rads are using up most of your heat output.

Coupled with that the balance of flow between the heating and HW may favour the heating. Try closing all the rad lockshields until there is just enough heat getting into each one.

Tony,
Thanks for your reply. I've have thermostatic radiator valves fitted to all my radiators, if I turn all the valves down to 1, will that have the desired affect?

Thinking about what you've said. I've only had the hot water problem since I've added an extra 2 radiators upstairs.

The pump I fitted is slightly more powerful than the previous one, if the flow was to high, would that also affect the hot water? Should I turn the pump down to it's minimum setting?

Cheers.

George.

Leave the pump on setting 2.

Close the lockshield valves on the two new rads to closed and open them only half a turn, close others on existing rads a lit as well particularly on the hotest ones.

That will probably get rid of most of your problems.

Tony,
Tried as suggested, no luck I'm afraid, hot water still taking an age. Have even tried turning off my extra 2 upstairs radiators, still no difference.
