Hi all,

Have recently bought my first home :) so am in the process of doing all sorts to get it how I want (You will no doubt see me on this forum quite a lot from now on!). Have just had the living room skimmed and removed the rad myself so would be a proper job (Having seen behind the rad this had clearly not been done for a while). Since this has happened I have been losing pressure from the boiler rather quickly (approx 1bar a week). Since I moved in it has been dropping slowly but not this fast so thought I would use some leak sealer in the system.

I do also fancy giving the whole system a clean as a few of the rads have cold spots. They have also been full of black sludge when I have removed them so have read and understood the Wiki on mains flushing the system. Two question I still have though are;

1. Is it worth doing this now? I will more than likely be removing other rads as the decorating continues (Not necessarily all of them though) or should I wait until I have finished removing / refitting the rads?

...and...

2. Can I use the leak sealer before flushing the system? Will the cleaning chemicals have any adverse effects on the sealer?

Thanks for reading!
