Hi there

For past week my boiler has not been firing up for hot water. Strange thing is that if I switch off the boiler and power down at the wall, switch back on then it works straight away. Boiler is firing up fine for central heating.

I am suspecting either the motorised valve or the tank thermostat? It's a pressurised system with a system boiler. Thing that is confusing me is why it works after powering down?

Does anyone have any thoughts or come across teh same problem? Boiler is only 1 year old.

Thanks from a family suffering cold showers

Yep, you’ve sussed it, likely the motorised valve actuator. When powering down, it removes the power to the valve, so sort of resetting it. If it’s a 2 port then it might not be making the microswitch. If you’re up unsure of the valve you have, post a photo of it and we shouldn’t be able to help you further, and if you want to tackle it too.

thanks for this...have now replaced the valve head (it was a honeywell 4043 so easy to replace the head. All working again and family happy! Only issue was that whoever installed the system installed the valves and pump in a narrow gap down the side of the cylinder making it near impossible to get to them! Not sure if this is a common problem but you would think that the system should be installed to allow future maintenance! Thanks again for your reply.
