Boiler Running Continuously

Hi. Been trawling through lots of threads but couldn't find anything specifically aligned to my 'problem', as follows:

I had an Ideal Logic 24Kw system boiler installed in late August, all was well until around end of November when I started to notice that the boiler fired up and ran regularly whilst the programme timer was OFF. I put this down to frost protection as temperatures were very low however this has continued since the milder weather and so I have been doing some investigations in the loft. Here's as much info as I can think of:

S Plan layout
2 x Drayton ZA5 motorised valves
Ancient Potterton timer clock
Wiring is an absolute dogs dinner!!

When the programme timer is ON for either or both CH & HW then all works fine, rads are hot, water is hot. M/Valves both move to open position (B).
When programme timer is OFF no heat to rads or tank (pressurised) BUT pump runs and boiler ignites.
M/Valve for HW seems to function as expected i.e. opens when calling for HW and closing when full of HW and thermostat kicks in.
M/Valve for CH also seems to function as expected based i.e. opens when calling for CH and closing when room stat reaches temperature.
I have been able to remove the actuator from the HW motorised valve, valve moves freely around 20 degrees
I cannot release the actuator from the CH motorised valve (Guessing this could be the obvious fault??) - can't test valve for movement

What's concerning me is if I get a replacement valve/actuator fitted am I barking up the right tree - operationally the CH valve appears to functionally do what it's supposed to as in it opens and closes based on programme timer and thermostat.

Is it still possible to have a faulty actuator or micro switch but still have the functionality above?

Many thanks

Yes, sounds like micro switch. With mine, took head off valve, gave it a light tap, and replaced and all started to work again. But will change either head or micro switch this summer. Running with damaged micro switch can damage the pump, so need correcting.

This is one of the issues with mine in that I can't release the actuator - guessing a faulty microswitch could be a cause of this
