What is the general feeling on BIASI boilers, are they absolute wrong'uns or are they recomended, pros and cons - please discuss

Thanks

You have been very bland with your question!

Biasi basically sell a combi which can be used as a system if required.

The original 24S and 28S was replaced about 2002 with a smaller version called M90 24/28s.

The M90 was modified to produce a condensing boiler by adding a stainless steel recuperator and sold as the M96 24/28s. This builds on the reliability of the basic boiler to produce a tried and proven condensing unit at low cost.

They are now about to market a new design called the M110 using the gianonni stainless steel heat exchanger which is already in use in the Halstead Eden and many other boilers and was used by Vaillant for a while before they developed their own design. This will be a 24 kW or a 34 kW unit.

Generally Biasi boilers are Italian manufactured mass produced boilers which are sold at a low margin and thus give very good value for money. Like all boilers they have to be properly installed and commissioned by a CORGI registered engineer and the system needs to be properly power flushed. If this is done they will be very reliable and give years of service.

Because Biasi are one of the cheapest on the market they are usually bought by east europeans and non qualified installers doing a cheap job who do not flush the system or commission the boilers properly. Because of this poor quality installation work they have gained an undeserved reputation for being unreliable. Installers regularly and correctly fitting find them very reliable.

They are also branded and sold as the Ideal "Mini" but it is the same boiler although thay are rather more expensive and the timeclock is not included as standard.

Seems a good place to ask - Which models are the "Ideal Mini"? Have they altered as the Biasi's have changed model?

I think it's safe to ask on this forum - (foolhardy on Screwfix) :D : Have you seen any evidence of corrosion in the first primary heat exchanger of a (any)condensing boiler? This could of course occur if the boiler were to run with the water in this h/e too cool.

I must say that my gut feeling is to agree that a modified stable boiler will have fewer teething troubles than a totally new design cobbled together from parts used elsewhere, even if those parts individually are not in question.

A man at BAxi told me they don't want their 105he running too efficient because of the resultant corrosion that would occur if the condensing commensed in the main heat ex. I imagine this danger exists for the Biasi and all boilers of the latched on efficiency era.

So Vaillant have moved on from the washing machine drum have they Tony? I haven't fitted one for over a year.

Without doing research which I have no time for today as got about six to repair, I presume Ideal call it the Mini HE ?

In the hybrid, the main HE is larger than in the non condensing version.

I have never seen a problem yet or even heard of one with the hybrid caused by corrosion in the first HE. The Ravenheat hybrid has been around now for 4-5 years!

If you think about it any standard boiler will have a potential for condensation on the HE when starting the heating system from cold but it does not seem to be any problem. I have never seen a standard boiler HE fail from condensation on the HE. But a few from leaking seams when bits of metal and debris lodging inside, presumably electrolytic corrosion?

Paul, my understanding is that Vaillant used the giaconni SS heat exchanger first but then designed their own version. Alpfa also use the gianonni and their engineer at telford told me it was very reliable and the only failures they had had were faulty low temperature welds on the manifolds.
