Bolier Efficiency

What is the most efficient temp to set a bolier. I have a thermostat ranging to 1 to 6. I have had conflicting opinions, so say 2 as it uses less gas, some say about 4-5 as it heats the central heating system to it' optimum temperature. Which is correct.
