My companies dishwasher is difficult to open, on checking there is a thin yellow stick like lever poking down from the right side of the handhold recess at the top of the door, if this is pushed to one side the door then opens easily , what is this for? is there something missing from the door catch?

if you find the exact model number (it is often engraved on the top edge of the door, where it shows when you part-open the door) and may begin E-Nr you can look up the manual for it on the Bosch.co.uk website. they have a lot of documents that you can view or download free. IIRC you have to navigate to Kitchen Appliances then Customer Service then Instruction Manuals

they have a Spare Parts section too, where you can often identify how yours should be put together and if anything is missing.

you answerd your own question!?

your meant to open the door by sliding leaver to the right then pull the door open... DOH!!

Surely if you are meant to move this lever it would be mentioned in the manual and obvious, it cannot be seen unless you lay on the floor and look up into the recessed handle and cannot be operated unless you poke it to the side with one finger [not something which would happen during normal use].
The bosch web site only shows the door catch as a complete unit not info otherwise.
It's not a safety device as the door can be opened in either position.

To turn off the child lock, insert a matchstick into the little hole next to the lever and push the lever to the right and hold. Remove the matchstick and you are good to go.
Eight years on, just saved me all sorts of trouble. Didn't know it even had a child lock..... Thanks
