the paint on my bow window canopy (which i think is lead flashing?) is flaking/aesthetically displeasing... (see pics)

how would you go about repairing this? my plan was to remove all the flaking paint, and repaint it with something more suitable. but i'm not sure how easy it will be to remove the existing paint, whether i need to prep the surface before re-painting, and indeed what paint i need to use to paint it with...

any advice is much appreciated

Work out what you have on there first.

You've also got some big cracks around the edges, and it doesn't look that weatherproof. Those need to be addressed.

What's your budget for it?

so i cut out all the failed mastic, cleaned it all up and applied lead sealant

i then coated the lead in Acrypol+

it looks a lot better but the Acrypol is a bit shiny... will it dull down over time?
