whats the diference between BS88 and BS 1361 fuses?

i kno they are both used in conumer units, but im not sure which is which
 
In very simple terms....

BS88 fuses are often used in industrial and commercial systems and BS 1361 fuses are often used in household fuse boxes.

BS88 fuses have breaking capacity up to 80KA, while BS1361 fuses can safely break up to approximately 16KA short circuit currents.

so BS 1361 are the types used in a CU, i.e the fat red type for 30A?
 
Yes, the cut-out fuses are indeed 1361, mostly these days. I have one in front of me to BS1361, 1971.

It is the spec for cart fuses for ac circuits in domestic & similar premises.
