Just wanted to say thank you to the forum. I was awoken at 5.30 am this morning to a bubbling condensing boiler, followed a short time later by a crying 18 month old very cold son.
I turned the boiler off fearing an imminent bang!
On restarting it, the pilot light would not light and despite various restarts it would still not fire up.
Then came the internet and this thread. On checking the condensing waste water pipe (sorry sure it must have a proper name) which runs down the outside of my home it was completely frozen.... umm it was not insulated.. school boy error.
I removed the whole frozen pipe easily enough, after taking off the plastic brackets. Fortunately i had bought my better half a fancy (and powerful) hairdryer for Christmas. So at six o'clock this morning, i was stood on a ladder using a hairdryer on the small amount of ice left in the U connecting pipe, on this thawing and following the backed up condensed water rushing out the boiler fired up on a restart immediately
I am in the good books and have saved a fortune, perhaps i can even afford that X BOX, Oh checked the temp -13 at six A.M brrrr.
Once again thanks
