Hi all.

Can someone recommend the best (cheapest?) place to buy loft insulation?

I live in the Borough of Barnet, North London, and have near me a B&Q, Homebase, but can't find from the web if they stock it. Also am not sure about builders merchants, something like Travis?

Thanks for any advice.

I bought mine spring this year from Homebase, they were doing buy 2 get 1 free..Hombase web sit waste of time. B+Q site does have the odd things missing & this appears to be one of them. So it looks like let your finges do some walking.

Oh well, I'll have to have a scout around!

Last year, I remember seeing some insulation in one of these stores, which was 'packaged' in bright pink polythene - I guess so that you don't have to get your hands on the fibres. Has anyone used this? Is it just as good as the usual stuff, or just an expensive gimmick?

although the insualtion will make you itch, it doesnt bother me, just dont scratch, that does make it worse, if you are that worried, buy a pair of rubber gloves, and a face mask. i helped my brother insulate our mothers loft, he did look silly, but he did say he had no problems. fibre glass in the lungs is not good, but at my age, i do not worry

Sure thing. I'll get the standard stuff.

Now what about the depth? The gap between the top of my joists and the floor is 90mm, so should I get 100mm insulation and just let it sit, or get a thicker one and try and squash it down?

Thanks.

Use the new insulation over the old one but don't squash it down.

Sorry, you misunderstood my question.

I don't have any insulation at present - but the height joists are only 90mm deep so I was wondering what's the best thickness of insulation to use?
