I am just wondering if I can hang a bathroom cabinet on a stud wall? Obviously by the time I put my toiletries in it it will be even heavier. I'm just wondering if it's not a good idea.

Yes,…but depends…

Any idea how old the house is? Stud walls used to be wood but some may use metal internals.

you won’t be putting bricks in presumably, plasterboard plugs are quite good.
Better to screw to studs if you can find them.
