Can I use a wall plate?

I am adding 5 more 9x2 floor joists in an existing roof space (BRegs approved etc). It will be a major job to cut holes and sit them on the brick work (also require a party wall agreement). Can I bolt a 9x2 (or 9x3) beam to the wall (on both sides) and hang my new joist from them using hangers?

Any advice greatly appreciated.
