Cannon Chesterfield Won't Stay Alight

I have a Cannon Chesterfied gas cooker (model C60GCK). We have not used the top oven for some time because although it lights on ignition it will not stay alight no matter how long you hold the knob pushed in. Now we have the same problem with the grill, which is even more annoying.

Has this model got a flame failure device? Is there anything I can do which does not require a registered CORGI?

The problem was the knob which I had removed for cleaning the day before.
