Hi

my friend has a Canon New Harvest cooker, unsure as to exact model (label too faded) however this pic might help:

it's just been checked by a gas engineer who advises it's unsafe and shouldn't be used due to a failed indicator/regulator that enables the gas to flow when a ring/oven/grill is on. due to it failing the gas flow isn't regulated. friend advised part no longer available.

have you any idea what part this could be and if it's likely to still be available? a while back she was advised the parts arrowed on the pic were no longer available ... a quick Google and i found them, genuine branded parts!

she doesn't really have the ££ for a new cooker so if this one could be repaired it would help her a great deal. any advice welcome.

oh yes and can the part be easily fitted by a non gas engineer or does it require an engineer?

I assume when your talking about a regulator you mean a thermostat or thermocouple both of which should only be replaced by a gas safe engineer. I think given the age of that cooker your friend needs to maybe look at a retailer which sells graded (cosmeticly damaged) appliances which are far cheaper than try to repair this.

Most busy engineers are not interested in spending ages looking for pasrts on the internet, from unknown sources. If we source them, we become responsible for them, including a warranty on a part that may not be available subsequently, and certainly not from the origonal vendor.

However, if YOU buy the part, you may find someone to install it for you, as the installer, in this scenario, would have no responsibility for the warranty.

The description offered of the part required does not make full sense. youn need to ask the engineer for the name of the part required.
