Capillary problem with tiled roof

Hi,

Looking for some assistance. I have capillary problems with a low pitched tiled garage roof.

Simply, when it rains water ingresses to the garage due to capillary action due to the pitch in the roof. I do not want to re-tile or felt the roof.

Does anybody have any suggestions to stop the leaking.

One suggestion I have had is to put gutter sealant along each tile to stop the water rising due to the capillary action. Any comments or experiences on this?

If the pitch is too low for the tiles you will not solve the problem.

What tiles have been used?

The tiles are marley Modern.

If you have a smart phone download an inclinometer (free ones available), hold it against the verge and you will be given the pitch of the roof

For info, minimum pitch for Moderns is:-

22.5° Smooth (75mm headlap)
17.5° Smooth (100mm headlap)
30° Granular (75mm headlap)
25° Granular (100mm headlap)

Are you sure it's capillary attraction and not just wind-driven rain? The tiles don't usually lie that close.
To stop the water coming in, you could try the old method of mortar torching.
Mix some sand and cement and point above each batten and up to the tile.
(many old clay tile roofs were done like this before felt became available).
It's a bit of work and will give you neck-ache but would keep the rain out.
(Hopefully the battens are pressure-treated)
