I have a large carport roof covered with the usual see-through sheeting. One of the sheets, in the middle, was damaged in the high winds and needs replacing. This can't be accessed without climbing on the roof, which won't stand my weight. How do I replace the sheet please.

cut a hole in the damaged one and stick your head through the hole. You can remove it in pieces.

Boards to spread the load are the normal answer- hard to say without pictures
Normally it is overlapped so that you start at one end and work along using a step ladder .
You can normally work off the ladders without weight on the roof but if you must go on the roof ensure that the frame will take the weight.

Might be easier to remove sheets up to the damage and work back
