Hi can anyone help I have an electrolux fridge in caravan it will not work off the electric although the gas does wok but does not make the fridge cold enough the van is 10yr old

Does the fridge sound as if anything is working at all ?

Is the temperature dropping at all ?

Have you checked your 12S supply/connections ?

When I switch on the electric the switch lights up so the electric is getting to the fridge, but it is not getting cold,I have tried 12v nothing happens The gas pilot light lights but still it doesn't seem to get cold Have looked in hand book but that is next to useless.

When did you last have your van checked by a dealer? It should be done on a regular basis. This includes a gas/electric check.

how long are you waiting??

an absorption fridge can take at least an hour before you see any difference, check the feezer bit, the plate should feel cold after about an hour.

the 12V wont work unless it hooked up to your car, engine running at a decent revs, it will not work direct from your battery in the caravan.

if it lights and really doesnt work on gas, check that the van is almost perfectly level, it can have a big impact on efficiancy and if it works at all.

still not working, have the fridge removed, turn it upside down over night and then turn it back the right eway up, you may have to repeat this a couple of times, this re-mixes the ingerdients in the fridge if its been sat for a while.

if this doesnt work the fridge is U/S

they UK campsite, its a caravan/camping forum with plenty of knowledge on non-working fridges.

wingcoax, most dealers/service centres only check for the gas/electrical safety, not if stuff actually works, so this may or may not bring to light a fridge fault such as this. if it lights up on the front, they probably assume its working.

I must have got a good one then, they spotted a problem with the 12v and fixed it foc.

The fridge contains a heater and for 230vac supply easy way is to use one of those energy meters to see if using power. 12v an ammeter is required at 12v uses around 8A and at 230v around 0.4A the elements do burn out and can be replaced.
