Hi All,

We have two rooms, roughly 55m2. I've had a couple of quotes, one slightly above 2k and the other just under, both from well-known carpet supplies.

Obviously £2k is a lot of money and if that's the cost it's going to be that's the cost it's going to. But at that cost Id be a fool not to look at other options.

And that's where I am at...

So, online retailers, my thinking is ordered the carpet from them, get the underlay from Screwfix and organise my own fitter.

Is this a good or bad idea, is there anything I need to be looking out for, any retailers you would recommend (or not!). Any thoughts would be great!

Bad idea, use a small independent carpet company and have them quote for everything. Avoid carpet right and the like. They like to try and hammer you on underlay etc which is why they can amazingly offer free fitting etc

An old friend with a family furniture business put me onto a small Essex flooring firm when I had a house in East London. They do lots of commercial work (pubs, offices, flats) and have no High Steet showroom but a warehouse with a good range and keen prices.
