The cast iron guttering leaks at the joints and water when it rains heavily back flows over into the bedroom above the window. This particularly happens when I haven't cleaned the moss out. We have now a leak in the ceiling approx adjacent to the gutter joint. The brick work directly below the gutters also needs some repair.

It's also strange as some times it leaks in the ceiling with just light rain , and on occasions can rain for hours and not a drip.

Roof has been inspected and fine.

I've been given different solutions
Trades have said
A) replace with uPVC and fit new running outlet to drainpipe as the seal has gone.
Dilemma with this is connecting the uPVC to neighbouring terraced houses with cast iron. Been told it's a pain to get the joint perfect.

B) clean the original cast iron in situ as removing can cause more problems and use acrypol resin to line the inside.
The above without the need of scaff.

C) replace cast iron with uPVC and check quality of bricks behind the gutter and repair, replace , repoint where necessary using scaffolding.

The above quotes range from £265 -£480 to change to uPVC no brickwork involved.
£320 to use the acrypol method .

Use of scaff obviously cost more £1420.

I understand and read up that cast iron rots from the back and underside, as far as I know it's only the joints leaking .

On another note why does water actually flow over the back of gutters , I remember years ago the gutters couldnt take a sudden amount and would flow over the front that why a drain pipe was installed.

Also these cast iron gutters are as old as the house , approx I don't really know this type of thing built 1930's

How are these attached to the house , one roofer said looks like they have moved slightly forward that's why waters getting behind, another said unlikely to move ,but probably no longer plumb due to age of house and if anything he'll put another nail in .

Still got a few more roofers coming out

More opinions the better.

Spoke to another roofer today recommends replacing with uPVC Ogee as trying to remove the cast iron they most likely snap.
Now read differently joining uPVC to cast iron is problematic the adapter always fail so how should it best be done. One joint will be directly above the doorway ( right) in the pic and the left side will incorporate a new outlet and down pipe , the other neighbours have an all in one piece gutter seamless aluminium gutters , currently connected to our downpipe doesn't leak at present. The other side leaks like a tap but that's an other story
