Hi All,

I live in a 1930 terrace house with cast iron gutters. When it rains "normally" the gutters are fine. However, as well know there has been a number of torrential downpours this year's. When there is the guttering on the house can't cope and the water spills over the back of the gutter. Is there any kind of gutter insert you can put in old cast iron gutters to make the back side of the gutter slightly higher to stop the water spilling over the back?

In this instance should the flashing be going under the gutter then to ensure any overflow does not penetrate the brick?

That looks like fin lock guttering? If you do have cast iron guttering and is spilling over, perhaps there’s a restriction in the downspout?

I have cleared the gutters out and sealed them with some fibre glass paint. Will see what happens during the next torrential downpour which could possibly be tomorrow if these predicted thunderstorms happen.
