Hi all,

I have two pipes leaving the kitchen to the drain outside. One pipe goes from the sink, the other from the washing machine. The pipes go through the wall separately and downwards for several metres before joining and then reaching the drain.

Recently there's a gurgling noise from both when running water.

I did some research and it seems to suggest the cause could be a blocked vent pipe. However, when I looked outside, there doesn't seem to be a vent pipe. What could the cause be, given there doesn't seem to be a vent pipe? Any suggestions?

Gurgling drains where they didn't before normally means a blockage of some kind.
