Central Heating confusion LP522

Hello - hope someone can help me. Gas ch with ideal W2000 boiler, ACL room thermostat, Lifestyle LP522 programmer, tank thermostat and mid position valve.

Programmer has never been 100%, the advance buttons do nothing, have to use select buttons to adjust. Main problem is the cylinder thermostat seems to control the central heating. Boiler will only light (can get hot water and central heating) when the thermostat (just replaced) is taken off the tank so it thinks the water is cold. Both red lights (HW and CH) illuminate on the LP522 when CH is selected as well. 3 pos valve seems to be operating and the room stat seems ok too.

Any ideas gratefully received as its very confusing.

Sounds like there's a wire missing (HW Off) between thermostat and programmer.

Could the room stat be defective? Checked the wiring, thanks croydoncorgi. Looks nothing like the installation diagram. Many links on the connector block. Still trying to unravel it!

Could also be a defective end switch on diverter valve
