Hi Guys,

I am hoping someone can help. Basically, for a number of years now we've had a problem with our boiler losing pressure. We are under a Home Care agreement with British Gas who have been out several times, drained down the system and recharged the expansion vessel for everything to be working again for a number of months. The same thing keeps occurring and I have checked every pipe, pulled up every floorboard and can categorically say we have zero leaks.

Following a visit from British Gas today regarding the same issue, the engineer found a blockage in a pipe leading from the boiler to the expansion vessel. It was full of rust and clearly full of corrosion. He then went on to say that I need a system flush at the cost of £695.

I have been reading for the past hour about system flushes and I am continually reading that typically, cold radiators are a good indicator that a flush needs to be done, which is the completely opposite to reality, my radiators are red hot, no cold spots anywhere.

so 2 questions, do you think a flush is truly needed? And if so, would I be able to do it myself saving nearly £700!

Many thanks,

Jamie

You could just flush your boiler if you think the rads are ok have you got a filter on the boiler return
if not when you've flushed the boiler put one on and it will collect al the sludge and keep your boilr clean also keep the inhibitor topped up Bob

The reason the EV hose is blocked is because you keep losing pressure and putting in fresh water , fresh oxygenated water continually added to the system will cause rust hence your brown/ orange blockage , you could flush to removed the rust in the system but if the pressure loss continues which it will , it will eventually rust again , what boiler do you have?
