Hi,

I would like to have support on a small issue I have with my central heating system.
First of all, every time the heating starts (or stops) and every time I use the hot water I hear noises in the pipe for almost a minute.
British Gas came and they told me it was air. They removed some air from one of the radiator but it did not seem to help that much.
Second, the pressure in my system slightly decreases with time. If for example I do not use the heating at all, after one week I got like 0.5 bar less in the system. Should this be caused by the air or by a leakage?
And how I can get rid of the pipe noises?

Thanks

You will have a slight leak somewhere.

The air can probably be removed by intelligent bleeding depending on the configuation of your system.

Thanks for your reply Tony.
What do you mean with intelligent bleeding?
And since the pipes are not fixed below the boards, is it possible that the noise is due also to the pipe movement due to temperature changes?
in this case bleeding will not completely solve my problem right?

Hi Rob77. I, too, have similar problems to yours. i.e. bubbling, gurgling pipes; sludge in the system; gurgling when switching on system and when using hot water; or switching off. No sign of any leaks and the system has previously worked impeccably. New pump and boiler approx four years ago. Worked fine since - until now. Symptoms sound somewhat similar to yours. If you find an answer, I hope you will share it with me please. Best of luck with your problems.
