Central Heating not working

Just jumpered L to 4 at the prog and bingo - stat, valve, pump and boiler all now working in harmony :)

So it's a new programmer for me. Any suggestions or should I just go for like for like? I don't need anything fancy and have been happy with the current one up until now to be honest.

Thanks all for your responses but particularly to Mick for your help and logical approach - very very much appreciated :D I've learnt a great deal in investigating and diagnosing this problem.
