I could do with some advice. My central heating is turned down for the night. There is no call from the thermostat but the pump keeps turning on for a few mins, goes off for couple of mins then comes back on - it's been doing it for 2hrs now. I had the plumber out he a couple of weeks ago and he replace the motorised valve and it seemed fixed until it started acting up again this evening. It's stressing me out, early hours of Sunday morning and it's keeping me awake. Any advice very welcome.

make and model of boiler also position fitted ,,,it could be frost stat kicking in with cold weather

Thanks for the help It turned out that the room stat was calling. I eventually got up sat and watched it for 1/2hr. The overnight temp is set to 18c. It's a new digital stat and obviously more sensitive than the old manual one. It was running the boiler for a few mins topping up rads but being an old house, 110yrs old, it's not good at holding the heat in. The stat registered the extra warmth, stopped calling and then the pump ran for a few mins after the boiler cut out. A few mins later the stat noticed and called again. So, it was doing exactly what it should be doing. It was just me being daft in the middle of the night.
