central heating pump.

This may sound stupid but the taps above and below my pump; what are they there for and should they be all the way to the left or right (im guessing left when I want them open!?)

cant get pic sorry, cant find lead for camera. Ill explain.

In aering cupboard. there is my celsia multi head pump. below and above are what look like red handled "taps". My Central heating was screaming not long ago and I was thinking it may be these taps were in the closed position, causing a lack of water to the pump and the pump was causing the screaming.

Anti clockwise is open (as they should be for normal use).

Clockwise is closed (only for isolating pump to work on).
