Hi, my boiler appears to have packed in today. The pilot light is lit ok, and its been working ok of late but this morning and tonight there's no heat in the radiators and no hot water. The thermostat is set high enough that it should be on but it just seems as though the boiler isn't 'lighting' at all (if thats the correct term to use).

The boiler is an 'Ideal Mexico Slimline RS40' but unfortunately I have no manual for it. I'm not at all sure how central heating works, so unfortunately can't do much thats overly technical! As I type this it sounded like it had just started working (though the boiler was chugging a lot to start with) but its just stopped again.

I'm sure this'll require an engineer, but thought I'd just try here in case anyone can suggest anything.

Thanks

I think so yeah - should it run continuously or only when the boiler is on? Could it just be the pump thats done in?

I've got it working thankfully, but maybe you can help - it was the pump as you thought. There is a small dial on top of the pump (which is a standalone one next to the hot water tank). This has three settings, 1-3, and was set at 1. I've never changed that and its not been knocked or anything accidentally. I moved it to setting 2 an hey presto, it all fired up.

I'm now wondering that the settings on the pump could relate to - any ideas?

Thanks again

the pump was jammed....when you changed the speed setting it freed it.

it may jam again if it does its best to get a new pump to save you hassle.

only fit a grundfos pump....the rest are junk.

if it all worked ok on speed 1 then leave it there
