Ever Ready battery BLR121 between £5 and £15 and not a clue how old the replacement is, 15 volt used in AVO Mk 8 meter, as far as I am aware only for higher ohm range, is there any need to change it, can buy whole multi meter for £4 today, OK AVO Mk8 still change hands for £60 but likely the £4 model is more accurate anyway.

Once zeroed in the correct way, the resistance readings on my Avo 8 agree with those of my DMM within the limitations of the resolution of the analogue scale. I really like the Avo for some jobs (such as working on the narrow boat) as it stays where I put it and the dial is easy to read from a distance, such as when it is sitting on the floor of the engine room and I taking a reading from the relay cab high up on the wall.

I have around four, kept mostly for old times sake - they are what I began my career with. They do have their uses, for peaking voltages and current - much easier to quickly get the peak. They also avoid the need to interpret numbers on a screen, when trying to mentally average a rapidly changing value.

You can make up a replacement 15v battery pack using the pound shop button cell packs.
