just noticed that my cylinder is leaking slightly so i think i'll have a go at replacing it with one of the new types, the problem is is that all the connections seem to be in different places, so to look at it from the front you have a vent/hot water pipe on the top next to that is an immersion heater, then on the left hand side on the flat side you have a connector and then on the right hand side near the bottom you have another connector going to the pump etc then directly below that you have another connector with a drain off valve i presume that this is the cold feed in, but the problem is al the ones im looking at are different to that, any ideas or help much appreciated thanks

You pays your money and takes your choice...
If you get a stock cylinder and the one you already have is an odd-ball, yup - the pipes won't match up and you'll have to do some plumbing.
Or...
You go somewhere like Plumbase and they'll probably be able to get you one made to order, with the tappings wherever you want, within reason. and probably for not megabucks more.

Which you do depends on whether you fancy the plumbing or not.

yeah i dont mind doing the plumbing and my local plumbing merchants did say they could get one ready made at a cost or take one of the shelf thats more or less the same size, so decided to take one off the shelf, it just seems that on my old one the top part is the same as the new one but all the other holes are different, its like the bottom right is the cold supply in and the one above it is the return to boiler so that means that the top left one is theflow from boiler... would this be correct.??

Sounds about right, is the system fully pumped or gravity HW?
If it's a gravity system then you will have to be a bit more careful how you position the new flow & return.

hi, i think the hot is gravity fed as the pipe that comes out of the cylinder is coneected to the pump but thats for the central heating i think... in what way will i have to be more careful..?? is it to stop air locks etc..??
