We're in the process of reinstating that original fireplace. I have chipped back the plaster to bare brick and so far everything has gone ok. The chimney looks full of dust and twigs.
I can see a concrete lintel at the top and it's clear to see where it was originally bricked up. Would the concrete lintel have a metal rod running through it which then goes in to the side bricks? It's a Victorian house built around 1908.
Anything else I should check before knocking out the bricks?
