Hi, we have 5 fireplaces that are not used. There is no leak but we do sometimes see debris and also there is cold draft through them which can be heard when it's windy outside. There is one gas fireplace as well, we see debris come down in that fireplace too. No water in any of them. Attaching pictures. Do I need to get them recapped? Or any other suggestions.

OP,
Four of your pots look in good condition with clay mushroom ventilating cowls but the fifth has a broken rim and a crack.
You can buy similar cowls with SS straps or SS jubilee bands that would work on the broken rim.
The pot with the gas appliance needs a gas cowl.
Keep the pots and the cowls. Re-fix them.

The flaunching on top of the stack has perished - & the top soot impregnated brick courses need rebuilding with new brick - say three courses of engineering bricks?
Before any work on the stack have all the flues swept - & then a camera down each flue to check the condition of the flues and feathers.

You can get Register plates or Debris plates fitted at the bottom of the flue. There are plates for redundant flues & active gas appliance flues with or without SS flex flue liners.
Redundant flues need ventilating at the bottom & the top.

Thanks a lot for your response. That does sound like a significant amount of work which I don't think will be able to do myself. Would you tell me ballpark how much I should budget for this (SW London). Can I do it in steps over a few months or should it all be done in one go. Also if you have any recommendations on a tradesman or what I should look for when finding one.
