My builder has just completed building me a stunning fireplace - 36 inches wide, 40 inches high and 32 inches deep.

We have a fire basket inside and a straight flue 8.5 inches in diamater up well above the house to a "T" shaped aluminium cowl. There is a metal gathering device (upside down funnel) inside the fireplace (out of sight) which reduces the flue to around 6 inches (I am told this is illegal!)

... and (obviously) it doesn't draw smoke away.

Is there anything we can do to prevent him having to pull the entire structure down?

- We've thought about a fan type device on the chimney to increase the draw;
- We've thought about reducing the scope of the fireplace

Any ideas (as winter draws in!!)?? :rolleyes:

Can you get at it to smash it out? if you can then drop a 7" liner down the flue, it might be a bit of a tight fit but as long as there's no bends in the flue you should manage it.
