I took out a chimney recently, and knocked out hearth to level the floor and filled the gap with a strong mortar. Since then I'm getting moisture rising up where the old hearth was.
I can bash out the mortar, but what would you suggest to DPC the old hearth? How should it be sealed/dpced against the current concrete floor?
Cheers,

My floor also appears to have a copper gas pipe in the concrete. If I start hitting the floor with a breaker, am I correct in assuming the gas pipe is going to become unsafe, or how would you rate my chances of remiving the concrete around it without distorting the pipe?

Isolate the gas from the meter before you start breaking out the concrete.

Wrap the pipe in duct tape before relaying the floor.

You need to replace the pipe as the concrete will have corroded it. Then protect the new pipe.
