IMO a duct all the way to the transformer is certainly an option worth considering. Whose land is the pole with the transformer on? have you talked to them about how they would feel about relocating the cable underground?
Our immediate neighbour is next to the road and the pole/transformer are the other side of the road so the cables cross the road then his land, finally to the pole in the garden. Taking the whole thing underground may be an option but crossing the road may be a costly issue. From the roadside its then probably 60 metres to the house....
I shall discuss all options with the terrible Tabasco twins when they come....

I suspect that crossing the road underground would be very costly. However, if your neighbour were co-operative (unfortunately there's not a lot in it for him), I imagine that there might be an option of going underground from 'his' pole to your house, thereby doing away with the need for 'your'pole. I'll be interested to hear what the DNO have to say, particularly about the various costs!
For those distances a far bit of it will require a (possibly) 95mm2 main then onto a service for the final few meters.
A road crossing will generally be a 4 figure sum
Unless you really have money to burn I think a re-assessment would be a good idea.
There are contractors who specialise in directional drilling who can put a hole across under the road with digging it up. You'll still need permission from whoever owns the land on the other side to dig a hole at the other end of your new pipe - but if you get that then the DNO should be able to pull their cable through (I'd have thought - you'd have to ask them).
Then you trench from your side of the road to the house.
Personally I'd want the supply inside the house - not away from the house where the mischievous kids might find it amusing to turn your power off. Not that I ever did anything like that with a house in the village that put his new oil tank right next to the road but out of sight from the house

I was told otherwise (about the licence) when I looked into it for a customer job. True, it wasn't cheap, but I'd imagine a lot less than a proper trench across a busy service road - and without a 6 week delay for a licence.
Back to the single phase at the front by the sound of it
Meddling kids won't be too much of a problem as we are so countrified that the last time I saw someone walk past the house they were chasing a runaway cow...
Maybe - but I still suggest that you discuss/explore all possibilities with the DNO folk. Don't forget that even removal of your ('3-phase') pole and associated cabling will come 'at a cost'>

Don't bank on it. I live in a similar situation to that which you describe but, every now and again, the youngsters from the nearest town (quite a way) make a sortie out here to see what havoc they can wreak in the rural backwaters!
Well John, let us hope that once the new cables are in and the requirement for the butt ugly pole have passed, that those meddlesome kids do come round one night and saw down that pole
