My circ pump is knackered (with power on to the pump, nothing happens)
I could pop to my local DIY store and pick up a new one for £30, am i allowed to fit it myself?
If so, is it just a case of closing the suction and discharge gate valves, unwiring, remove old one and fit new one? How do you bleed the air out of it afterwards?
Cheers

By all means have a go yourself. You might want to look up other posts relating to changing circulating pumps before you start though.

Pump changes are never as easy as they look!

Sounds like a job to avoid, i started so called 5 minute jobs before and been there for hours...
If this job was in Haynes manual, how may spanners of diffulty would it be (1 spanner for easy, 5 spanners for don't even bother)... i tend not to attempt anything above a 3 spanner job!
Cheers all.

It maybe a case of your bravery at attempting the job compared to putting up with wifes temper at living in a freezing cold house.

OR forking out for a tradesman of course!

I know what I'd do

Dial-a-corgi is coming round tomorrow morning.
Case closed.
Thanks for the comments and help.

Just because the pump is not turning does not mean that it's not working.
You have to establish whether there is a call for heat. Turn up room stat or cylinder stat(don't forget to turn back down) and use a multimeter to detect 240 v to pump. If you have a demand for heat and 240 v, then the the pump has gone. If it needs to be replaced make sure you replace the correct type: 15/50 or 15/60.

It should in theory be easy, but I know from experience that it can be a nightmare. Beware of seized pump valves.

The guy stated power to pump and it wont spin.
Yes it can be spun but we all know without lubicatants (that can not be avocated on here) it will stick again.

Remember though, its a £150 job MAX.

I'm not as stupid as i thought - i've done what you said, the call for heat was definnitely there (house is freezing, stat is up to max, boiler fires up)
and there is voltage to the pump. No idea what the winding resistance should be but mine was 370 ohms... don't spose that matters when the pump doesn't turn!
Cheers.

Give the pump a bang with a hammer sometimes that shifts it, worth a try
