clarification needed

If I upload a video to say youtube, then embed it on my site, am I right in thinking that it will not affect my website host "allowance" because the clip is on a differnt server (youtube's)

It depends what this allowance is for.

Is it a maximum bandwidth for visits to the site? If so, then having a video object on there could have an impact.

yes sort of.

i know that video clips eat allowance / month on my site (thats my site, not my connection)

so if loads of people want to view it they soon use my site allowance.

so i figured if i put it on you tube my site allowance will be ok, but i dont want to find out the hard way, it isnt

Oh I see. I was beguiled by your use of the word "embed".

Do you mean put a link from your site to the YouTube site? If so, then it won't affect your allowance, which is what you want.
