Cleaning and Painting bay window tiles

The tiles above our bay window have gone like this (flakey paint and some are covered in moss). Here is a picture.

What's the best way to tackle it?

I'm guessing

1. Clean off the all the moss with a moss remover. (Any recomendations ?)
2. Remove all loose flakey paint with sandpaper and/or a wire brush.
3. Some Red Paint. What's the best type of paint to use?

PS. What's the correct terminology for these tiles, millions of houses in the UK have them, but nobody I know seems to know what they are called?

I've been doing lots of googling and I've stumbled across this stuff. The picture on the tin suggests it maybe ideal. Does anyone have any experience of it or have any other suggestions?

Your ideas and paint choice are fine They are just called hanging tiles.

I sprayed the moss with a product called HG Mould Remover, it's for bathrooms really, but it worked well.



I then scraped the biggest lumps of moss off with a leaf trowel, it came off easily.



I then washed the tiles with a couple of buckets of hot soapy water, and used one of the those kitchen sponge/scoured pad things to clean off any final bits of moss and muck.



I then used the leaf trowel to scrape all the big lumps of old flakey paint off, and gave them another wash with soapy water and rinsed them with some clean water.

The next job will be to give them a rub over with some sandpaper and paint them with the tile paint.

Try some mapei primer between the tile and paint, the adhension should be 100% better.

Interesting idea, but I'm confused. Which Mapei primer do you suggest, I've googled and Mapei make at least 5 different types of primer.

Apparently that stuff is simply Mapei Primer G rebranded for Screwfix. I've got some primer G left over from a tiling job, so I might give it a try.

Do you put it on neat or dilute it ?.

My first ever job was with a roofer and we were doing hanging tiles on new builds for weeks. Ugh....so tedious!
