just took all the interior doors off the house to be sent off to be dipped in acid for cleaning, but how do I clean the door hinges of all the paint, tried scrubbing them with a greenie but not worked.

If I use turps will that clean them but strip all the gold effect off, do you use sugar soap or just buy new ones ?

Are they brass plated hinges? Throw then away and buy solid brass ones.

You could use a paint stripper if you want.

If the house is old and has solid panelled doors that are worth stripping, I would have expected to find iron hinges. Keep these if they are original.

I think they are brass plated ones, yes have one or two iron ones, we can not get the screws out to take them off, so they will have to stay one. Will have a go at stripping them, if not I will buy new again.
