cleaning out a drain U-bend

We had an Acco drain fitted to take away surface water from the hard surfaces, but now I notice that the leaves build up in the U bend and looked like to cause a flood. Shoved hand down into bend and pulled out huge wad of leaves and also a lot of stones etc. There are still some stones down there. What would be simplest way to get them all out? I was thinking of a soup ladle bent a bit.....
I will fit a leaf guard to prevent more leaves going that way in the future.

Use whatever is practical.

Pour some bleach down there and give it a good roggering with a similar sized prodder to create pressure and suction. It will help clean around the trap.
Watch out for up-spurts though.

what about one of these 4" brushes on a rod, or would pushing stones into the drainage system be a worse idea?

Fetch the stones out with your ladle and blast the rest of the sludge and rinse well.
