Gillan Band in '81 is one of my all-time favourite gigs...slap bang in the middle of the mosh pit, right in front of Gillan who was on total form that night, belting out 'Sacre Bleu' with his old zest. Yngwie Malmstein was amazing, easily the most exciting guitar soloist you've never heard of. Nearly broke my arm when it got trapped in the door during the stampede to get into the Assembly Rooms, Derby: ducked under a mad stage-diver who sailed past and landed with an audible thud i can still hear to this day. Never again did i drink whiskey which my mate smuggled in under his jacket. Fekkin eejit thought milk and alcohol was a good idea - it wasn't. Puked the lot over a gorgeous girl in front of me to his enduring amusement. She wasn't happy about it. Neither was i, since i thought i had a shot at her during a couple of numbers when she'd been grinding back into me. Oh well. Happy Daze.
